James Madole, PhD
Psychologist, He/him/his
Licensed Clinical Psychologist: Washington 61544197, authorized to provide teletherapy in 41 states and District of Columbia through PSYPACT.
I am a licensed clinical psychologist with nearly a decade of experience providing evidence-based therapy to diverse clients across a range of settings, including outpatient mental health clinics, inpatient psychiatric hospitals, correctional facilities, and specialty medical units. My practice centers on my firm belief in each individual’s capacity to generate meaningful change for themselves. Using evidence-based strategies, we will work to clear the obstacles that limit your quality of life and develop tools to enhance the values, actions, and identities that best represent your authentic self. I view my role in this process as a trainer, helping to cultivate motivation through technical expertise, unwavering encouragement, and flexible thinking.
I specialize in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Motivational Interviewing (MI), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Prolonged Exposure (PE), Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), and mindfulness-based approaches. I believe strongly in tailoring these scientifically-proven treatments to the unique needs and goals of each person. I place the highest emphasis on building a supportive and collaborative relationship with you as an individual. I believe that authenticity, transparency, honesty, and trust are the bedrock of a strong therapeutic relationship.
About Me
I received an undergraduate degree in philosophy from New York University before earning a post-baccalaureate certificate in psychology from the University of California Berkeley and my doctorate from the University of Texas at Austin. I completed my doctoral internship at VA Puget Sound Health Care System, Seattle Division, where I continue to serve as a staff psychologist on an acute inpatient psychiatry unit. In addition to my clinical work, I hold a faculty appointment in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at the University of Washington School of Medicine, where I provide clinical supervision and teaching and specialize in research related to suicide prevention.
